Glossary

The words Doko Maps uses.

A short dictionary of the ideas you meet across the product, and what each one means here.

Guide
A themed map of places, with your notes, made to share. Your workspace calls it a map.
Place
A real place found through Google Maps, such as a restaurant or a temple. One place can appear in many guides, each with its own note.
My Places
Your private library of saved places, ready to add to any guide or itinerary.
Category
Your own name, color and icon for a kind of place, such as Coffee or Onsen, shared by all your guides and itineraries.
Itinerary
A dated plan of one trip, made for a named guest: what happens each day, in what order, where they sleep and what it costs.
Guest
The person an itinerary is made for. A guest reads it by a guest link and never needs an account.
Day
One date of an itinerary. Every date from the first day to the last is a day, even one with nothing planned.
Stop
Something on a day where the guest stays in one place: a meal, a visit, a free afternoon.
Journey
Travel from one place to another on a day, by train, bus, ferry or on foot. It is an item of its own, with its own fares.
Stay
The nights in one hotel, from check-in to check-out. A stay from the 24th to the 27th is three nights.
Pass
A ticket bought once that covers several days and journeys, such as a regional rail pass. Its price is counted once.
Idea
A guide you offer the guest for free time. It names where to look, not what to do, and copies nothing from the guide.
Travel book
The guest's presentation of an itinerary: a cover, contents and a chapter for each day, with a map that follows the reader.
Practical itinerary
The same trip as folding days, with stays and passes beside them, for reading on the road.
Guest link
An address nobody can guess that lets your guest read one itinerary or guide without signing in. You can revoke it.
Public itinerary
An itinerary listed on your profile for anyone to read. It never shows the guest's name.
Enquiry
A request for a trip like one you published, sent from your public itinerary. Doko Maps passes it on; you answer it yourself.
Review round
One chance for the guest to comment on a draft by email or WhatsApp, followed by your revisions. Two rounds come before the final itinerary.
Trip budget
What an itinerary costs, in the currency you quote in, with an optional estimate in your guest's currency.
Planning assistant
The assistant beside the editor. It adds stops, journeys, stays and passes and reorders days when you ask, and never deletes.
Creator
A user whose subscription, trial or beta invitation lets them make guides and itineraries.
Reader
A user who signs in for free to follow creators and read their guides.
Editor
A colleague invited to work on one guide or itinerary, inside the owner's plan.
Follow
A request to read a creator's private guides. It counts once the creator approves it.
Visit
A city you have been to, drawn on the globe of your public profile.

One professional itinerary, presented as a travel book made for the guest.
